Great Places in North Carolina is an awards program created in 2012 to highlight North Carolina’s Great Places and the communities and people that have created them. Sponsored by the state’s chapter of the American Planning Association, the program offers a way to recognize these important places in the state.
Winners last year included North Salem Street in Apex, Historic Downtown Hendersonville and Fourth Street in Winston-Salem.
Two categories are peoples’ choice awards: great greenway and great historic rehabilitation. Other categories are open to members of the APA: Great Main Street and Great Main Street in the Making.
Nominations close on January 30. Voting will run from February 9 – 27.
